The palm Row

Recently there have been tensions between India and Malaysia. This is possibly because of Malaysian prime minister, Mahatir Mohammad’s constant criticism of India regarding the abolition of article 370 and CAA. This has led India to rethink it’s economic relations with Malaysia.

India is the largest importer (buyer) of palm oil from Malaysia but India has now put restrictions on their import. This has caused great harm to the Malaysian economy causing the biggest decline in palm oil prices on Friday in more than 11 years. The Malaysian government said that their trade ministers could meet during the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum but the Indian government declined.
